TWO pairs of father and sons who have branded themselves the Pedal Pushers are in training for a charity bike ride from Awsworth to Skegness.
Kevin Plackett, 22, encouraged his dad, Roger, friend Aden Carden and his dad, Gerald to get on their bikes to raise cash for Cancer Research.
Kevin said: “There are many families throughout the UK that have had several family members that have suffered from all kinds of cancer and mine is no different.
“I have grandparents that have suffered from cancer and won the battle but without the help of Cancer Research we feel this wouldn’t have been possible.
“Now it’s our turn to give something back to Cancer Research for the amazing work which they are doing everyday.
“They couldn’t do the amazing work they do if it wasn’t for events and sponsored challenges like this.
“We wanted to do the ride, we know it will be epic and a real challenge but it will definitely be worth the effort to raise money for the charity.”
The Awsworth foursome will set off on their ‘epic’ ride on August 20.
They have estimated their route from the Plackett’s home on The Glebe, to be 94 miles and guess it will take them nine or ten hours to reach the seaside.
Roger Plackett said: “It was all Kevin’s idea. He didn’t really have to persuade me, he asked if I wanted to do it as well and I thought it was a great way to raise some money.
“He’s always wanted to do it so I thought I’d join him. Aden and Gerald were both keen to be involved as well.
“We know it’s a long way but we’re hoping to do it in nine or ten hours.
“It should be a good day, challenging but worth it for charity.”
Cancer Research UK is a charity that relies on donations and fundraising carried out by the public to continue their research into all types of cancer.
