#Gloria MP, a Twitter devotee

Eastwood’s MP Gloria De Piero says that Twitter has become a valuable tool in helping her keep in touch with her constituents.

Tweeting sensation Gloria has 18,000 followers on the social-networking platform.

Tweeting about everything from politics to one of her favourite weekend shows - the X Factor - Gloria said the tool is great in helping her to know what is going on locally — even when she is not there.

“Twitter is a great way of finding out what’s going on in the news when you aren’t near the TV.

“But it’s also a valuable way for me to keep in touch with you and to let you know what I’m up to.”

In a recent 24-hour period, Gloria tweeted about 17 times and since joining Twitter she has sent out more than 6,000 tweets.

She added: “Just the other week, a Greenbelt association got in touch with me about meeting with representatives of the group to discuss the erosion of the Greenbelt and I was more than happy to oblige and try and get the answers they needed.

“You wouldn’t believe how much casework I now pick up from Twitter from all sorts of local people and it just goes to show the power and the reach the social networking site can have.”

But the MP does not use the social media site for all work and no play.

Gloria added: “For those that do follow me I’m sure you will have noticed that it’s not all politics and I certainly don’t just treat it as a work account.

“It’s a personal account and I love to chat about all sorts of things, especially Coronation Street and the X-Factor.

“Me and Paul Brown, aka @bombski, have been known to discuss both programmes and he even came in to my office last year to give me some Corrie memorabilia.

“All that from a simple conversation on Twitter.

“If you are from Eastwood and you want to follow me I’m on @gloriadepieromp and I promise that I will follow you back.”
