A STANTON-BY-DALE golf club has written a whopping cheque for a cancer charity, thanks to members’ donations and fundraising events.

Captain Les Haines and his wife, ladies’ captain, Jane Haines, presented £7211.70 to Cancer Research UK at Erewash Valley Golf Club earlier this month.

The club, off Golf Club Road in the village, raised the money throughout the year through giving donations, buying raffle tickets, competitions and a variety of social, fundraising events.

Myles Godfrey, regional manager for Cancer Research UK, collected the cheque from the two captains and thanked them for their hard work.

The captains thanked everyone for supporting their chosen charity The Seve Ballesteros Foundation, which works in partnership with Cancer Research UK to fight brain cancer.

The legendary golfer died from brain cancer in May last year.
