PARENtS were invited to a special opening party at the new Springbank Primary School in Eastwood this week.
Children gave their parents a tour of the £5m new-build in Peacock Drive, before letting 400 balloons off as a mark of celebration.
Headteacher Julie Vaccari said: “It was a day of excitement and smiles. The balloons were a really nice ending to the day.”
Ms Vaccarie said teachers and children were over-the-moon with the new site.
“We are absolutely delighted. There’s a lovely feeling of light and space and it’s so modern.
“There are so many smiles on the childrens faces.”
Finance manager at the school Kate McCallum said parents were equally chuffed with what they saw during the tour on Monday of this week.
“Parents were just all open mouthed,” she added. “Amazed and just so happy with it.”
“It was good to show them where the new hall would be, where we’ll be eating lunch and so on, so they get a feeling for where their children will be.
Eastwood Mayor Ken Woodhead paid the school’s council a visit during the morning to talk about working with them in the coming year. The pupils want to learn how a normal council is run so they can operate the same way.
