Green-fingered allotment members pick up awards

Exceptional weather, absent exhibitors and illness did not deter the members of Watnall Allotments Association who staged the Annual Member’s Show at the Royal Oak Inn.

Entries and entrants were slightly up on last year as more new members tried to demonstrate their skills.

June Layton, chairman of Greasley Parish Council, attended the show to present the awards.

The most successful member was Bryan Warhurst who scooped twelve first places and then collected four trophies.

A new name on the Domestic Shield was Sue Marriott who had worked tirelessly to promote the show.

Allotment stalwart, Gordon Jarrett attended the show, despite undergoing recent surgery and conducted the fund raising auction.

Chairman Bill Wright thanked all members that had taken part and for their efforts to set up the Show.

Special thanks went to Greasley Parish Council for their continued support and to Linda Wood at the Royal Oak for providing facilities.
