Groups awarded £8,000 cash

Community groups have been given hundreds of pounds to help make their projects a success in Eastwood.

Community First was given £33,000 to spend on organisations in Eastwood over the next five years, and this week more than £8,000 was given to help nine local groups.

£1,000 was given to the Team Revolution Dance Academy for an upcoming production of Cats, Phoenix Clubbers was given £2,000 to spend on young adults with disabilities, Eastwood Booktown Development Group was awarded £1,000 to promote the town as an area of tourism, and the Youth Pool Academy was given £800 to support the popular game.

Other groups included the 3rd Eastwood Scouts who were given £1,200 to pay for activities and trips, the Eastwood Young People’s Partnership was given £1,339 to help fund the annual VIBE event, the town’s photographic society was awarded £400 for equipment and the Eastwood Volunteer Bureau was given £250 for its befriending service.

The Communities Together charity which givens 25 bags of food to the vulnerable in the town each week also got £500.

The community First group is made up of teachers, councillors, and members of the public.
