A CHURCH warden had half of his beard shaved off to raise cash to repair the roof of St Mary’s Church in Greasley.

Peter Stanton opted to go for the one sided beard after lead from the Greasley church’s roof was stolen.

Donations and sponsorship helped him raise £400 to go into the fund.

He said: “I’ve shaved it all off now, I was looking a bit lopsided with just half a beard.

“There’s lots of people doing all different things to get the roof repaired.

“We don’t know how much replacing the lead will cost but at the moment we’re focusing on getting the roof watertight.

“We need to get the roof back in good order and then we’ll start looking at raising cash to replace the lead.

“It will be a real team effort and worth it in the end.”
