The British Red Cross is inviting community groups in Nottinghamshire to paint the county red this spring by organising their very own Red Shoe Walks.

The popular Red Shoe Walks are a series of rambles of between four and eight miles around landmarks and cities across the UK for the charity’s annual Red Cross Week.

Participants don red shoes and raise sponsorship for the charity’s lifesaving work across the UK and overseas.

Now, they are inviting local community groups and organisations to put on their red shoes and organise their own Red Shoe Walks in their local area, raising sponsorship as part of their Red Cross Week, which runs from May 3 until May 9. Walks can be based on the central Red Shoe Walk format of four or eight miles, or adapted to suit the group – the only requirement is that they need to take place before 30 June. Groups organising their own event will receive a comprehensive Red Shoe Walk pack, plus their local Red Cross fundraiser will be on hand with plenty of support and advice to help make their event a big success.

Red Cross fundraiser for Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, Alex Gadsby, said: “The Red Shoe Walk series is hugely popular and this year’s events will be our best yet. In 2014, lots different local groups organised their own Red Shoe Walks and we want to encourage many more people to get involved this spring.

“No matter where you live, there’s bound to be somewhere nearby that would make a great place for a Red Shoe Walk, and it’s a great way to discover more about your local area, and get out and about in the fresh air!”

Red Shoe Walks are part of Red Cross Week, British Red Cross’ annual fundraiser which sees supporters take part in a huge range of activities across the UK. Every pound raised through Red Shoe Walks goes towards helping people in crisis, both in the UK and overseas. To register, groups should sign up at redcross.org.uk/redshoewalk. They will then receive their Red Shoe Walk DIY pack and be put in touch with their local fundraiser for support.
