Housing debate next week

A FIERY debate is set to take place next week as councillors discuss the figure put forward for housing in Broxtowe borough over the next 15 years.

Currently included in the draft list of potential sites are Trowell Moor and Field Farm, between Trowell and Stapleford.

The two greenbelt sites could take on about 2,500 of the 6,150 that the council says it needs to build before 2028.

Broxtowe MP Anna Soubry has spoken out against the Labour-Liberal Democrat coalition-led council accepting the figures, which are roughly the same as those imposed by the previous Labour government.

Broxtowe only has enough brownfield sites to accommodate 3,000 homes, meaning the rest would have to be built on greenbelt.

The meeting is on Wednesday at Beeston Town Hall.
