A total of 2,507 children in Ashfield and Broxtowe took part in the Summer Reading Challenge at their local library this year, with a whopping 155 children signing up at Kimberley Library.

The challenge is to read six books by the end of the summer holidays and the bookworm is then presented with a certificate and medal.

The annual event encourages children to keep up the reading habit during the summer holidays and research shows it can help boost their confidence and literacy skills.

More than 9,000 children joined the scheme across the county and 55 per cent successfully completed the challenge.
