A LAWRENCE fanatic from Eastwood said he would like to see Greasley Beauvale School turned into a community centre.
Fred Skillingon, who lives in South Street, said there were too many groups and organisations in the area struggling for a place to meet.
“I would like to see a wing of it turned into a community centre,” he said. “There’s quite a lot of clubs and societies that have nowhere to meet. I’m a member of a writing club and we meet in a friend’s house.”
Mr Skillington said he had no grave concerns about the sale of the building and did not mind it being turned into flats.
“It would be nice if a plaque was put up outside though,” he said.
The famous school where Lawrence studied goes to auction on January 26.
It is Grade II listed which means the inside of the building can be changed but the outside cannot.
