Outline plans for the UK’s first-ever £15m sports village off the Eastwood bypass near Nuthall have been submitted this week.
The proposals from Oxylane would see Decathlon move out of Giltbrook Retail Park and onto the new site.
The people behind the idea say the development could create as many as 250 jobs and would give locals better access to a wide range of lifestyle opportunities.
But some councillors have already raised concerns about the impact the development could have on local town centres.
As well as the store, the plan includes provision for football, tennis, netball, cycling, tree climbing plus a leisure centre and garden centre.
It is thought councillors will debate the plan early next year. For more detailed information see our planning column on p11.
