Letter: ‘Create little rubbish’

After reading Martin Hutton’s ‘Advertiser Viewpoint ‘last week I just had to put pen to paper and say ‘thank you Martin’ – you are absolutely right and we should all create as little rubbish as possible and donate our unwanted items to our favourite charity shop – in my case it would be Save the Children in Green Lane Shopping Centre, Kimberley.

The shop opened in January and gets some great feedback from customers – they say that it’s great that it’s not a typical charity shop.

The premises are bright, clean and modern and the stock is carefully prepared before it goes on sale. Items are priced sensibly and include clothes, books, jewellery, bric a brac and toys. In fact there is something for everyone!

The Green Lane shop is open six days a week and that’s why we really do need more help. Something that is still missing from this top notch charity shop that raises much needed funds to save the lives of children in the poorest countries of the world is more people to give just a little of their time.

The roles in the shop are really varied – stock sorting, pricing and preparing for sale, merchandising, window dressing, training new volunteers and customer service – something for everyone.

I read just the other day that volunteering is really good for you as it keeps your mind and body active and gives you the feel good factor because you are helping others less fortunate than you. It also gives you the opportunity to make new friends, feel part of a team and to have some fun.

All of this while helping children who are still dying unnecessarily – why wouldn’t you want to give just a little of your time to this excellent cause?

Please do continue to donate stock to us but please consider donating that most precious thing of all – a little of your time.

Call in for an informal chat or just give me a call on 07825 761 957 and by giving a little of your time you will gain a lot – volunteering could definitely be good for YOU!
