A former chip-shop owner from Eastwood has celebrated her milestone 100th birthday.
Kate Mancer, who lives with her daughter Kathleen in Newthorpe, turned 100 on May 10.
Mother to Graham, 66, Kathleen, 71, and Brenda who sadly passed away last year at the age of 74, Kate has seven children and fourteen grandchildren.
She was married to her late husband Willis, who died, aged 54 in 1966, for 29 years.
After being alone for 11 years, Kate re-married in 1977. Her second husband, Fred, passed away three years ago.
Kate’s daughter Kathleen, said that healthwise her mum is well.
She added: “She likes her knitting occasionally, but she does struggle with mobility a little bit.
“We try to take her out in the wheelchair every week. We often journey to Nottingham on the tram with her on a Sunday when it’s quieter.”
Kate’s family threw her a party to celebrate her big day two weeks ago. Her daughter said that she used to enjoy taking trips out on the train with Fred.
“He used to work on the railways and they used to enjoy their free trips out.”
Kate worked at her family’s fish and chip shop prior to her first husband’s death. She has also worked producing various meats at a butcher’s.
