A prominent bakery in Watnall has celebrated a new era in its history by raising more than £1,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The Premier Foods bakery on Main Road was given a new investment opportunity last month and has now started trading as stand-alone company, Hovis Limited.

To mark the occassion, manager Adrian Pezzetta decided to hold a fundraiser which saw ten members of staff handing out varieties of Hovis-branded bread and muffins last week in return for small donations to Macmillan Cancer Support, which provide specialist support to families and victims of cancer.

Also handing out bread on the day was Brian Betts, 65, who has been at the company for almost 50 years.

Adrian said: “It was a great way to mark the occasion and we had a lot of fun

“We’d like to thank everyone who came out to support both the staff and the charity. There were so many more donations than we anticipated.”

He added: “One particular highlight was handing out bread to bus passengers as they stopped en route — it was a bit surreal.

“The staff have also been tremendously supportive too and I’d like to thank them for their hard work. I know we were all tired by the end of it all.”

The Hovis Ltd bakery managed to raise a total of £1,132 for Macmillan and is now busy planning the next charity fun day for June.
