Barclays bank in Eastwood will be collecting for the Advertiser’s Feed Our Families Campaign next week.

The branch in Nottingham Road will be putting on mince pies and other seasonal refreshments for its customers and collecting donations for the local food bank between Monday and Thursday, December 16 to 19.

Customer advisor Marie Banks, who has worked at the branch for two years, said: “We all have a Christmas week as a nationwide initiative but we wanted to do something a little extra for the community – I just felt we should.

“I had a look at a few things online and read about the foodbank campaign and I thought that was perfect.

“I though if it’s for something in Eastwood people are likely to contribute because it’s in their community.”

Marie has made flyers so customers know what foods to bring and has a collection box in branch.

The Advertiser launched a campaign earlier this month urging people to help with donations for the food bank based at the bureau in Wellington Place.

The initiative aims to help families struggling to put food on the table in the run-up to Christmas.

Back in October staff running the service said the number of people collecting bags of food had increased four-fold over the last year.

Other businesses to have helped collect for the foodbank include Rumbletums charity cafe in Kimberley and Sainsburys Local at Hilltop, Eastwood.

People can take food along to any of the businesses mentioned above, or straight to the bureau itself.
