Nuthall Parish Council’s bid to erect its first war memorial in the village has been given a welcome boost by Notts county cuncillor Philip Owen.
Cllr Owen has dug deep into his ‘Divisional Fund’ to provide a generous sum of £1,500 towards the initiative in the year of the 100th anniversary since the outbreak of World War One.
Authorisation for the new war memorial has been given the green light by Broxtowe Borough Council and work is expected to commence on the project later this year.
Accepting a cheque on behalf of Nuthall Parish Council, Cllr Brian Watson (right) said “Cllr Owen’s generous support is greatly appreciated.
“ The memorial is to be erected on an appropriately chosen site situated on the Basil Russell Recreation Ground and will serve as a worthy tribute to the brave local men and women who have given their lives in conflicts past and present.”
