Christmas trees decorations stolen

Solar panels from Christmas tree decorations have been stolen from the display in Langley Mill.

Aldercar and Langley Mill Parish Council had provided a large display of solar-lit

festive trees along Station Road, Derby Road, Cromford Road, Upper and Lower Dunstead Road in the village.

But parish councillors have told of their upset this week after the theft.

The panels were stolen some time during the last week.

Council clerk Sheena Trower said: “Plantscape of Ashbourne, as the contractor, has worked hard to ensure the display was up and running in time for December 1st, 2013.

“The proprietor of McDonald’s at Langley Mill, Ken Hair, has also contributed £2,000 towards the festive lighting.

“It is therefore with great disappointment to report that two of the solar panels from trees located near to the Langley Mill Railway Station have been stolen.”

She said the trees were placed high up and she thinks the thieves would have

needed “a mechanical means of access” to get to the panels.

It is set to ecost more than £400 to replace and install new ones. She said: The trees will be replaced within the lighting system, but at another location within the village.”

Anyone with information about the theft o should contact Derbyshire police on the 101 number.
