Shock statistics show that Nottinghamshire is in the top ten places in Britain for weapons offences.
The figures, obtained through the Office of National Statistics (ONS) and analysed by insurance company, Direct Line, show that the region had more than 472 crimes that involved a weapon between June 2012 and June 2013.
Set against the size of the area’s population, it put Notts seventh in the table with 43.3 crimes per 100,000 people.
A police spokesman said: “There are strict laws governing knives and the possession of weapons so there is little excuse for carrying one unlawfully. The force has a zero tolerance approach to the illegal possession weapons.”
