A break-dancer from Langley Mill has made it through to the live final of the top TV show Got to Dance.
Kelvin Clark, 14, who attends Aldercar Community Language College, and goes by the stage name, Bboy Kelvin, lined up alongside dance partners Karam, aka Bboy Kid Karam, and Callum, aka Bboy Monster, as break dancing group Original Kidz.
The trio wooed the judges with their crowd pleasing performance that saw them voted through to the live final of the hit Sky 1 reality show which will air on Friday, August 29, at 6.30pm.
Ashley Banjo, show judge and leader of dance group Diversity, said on the show that the group had upped their ‘performance quality’ since their audition. While Original Kidz mentor and fellow show judge Kimberly Wyatt, the former Pussycat Dolls singer, enthusiastically said the trio ‘smashed it!’.
Experts have said that what makes the boys’ top notch performance that little bit more impressive is that they pride themselves on being completely self-taught.
Kelvin trained in his garden shed, which he kitted out with mirrors for practicing his dance moves.
Their act was noted for being unlike the vast majority of the others on the show.
None of them have ever attended dance schools, instead choosing to teach themselves and completely choreographing their own routines from scratch.
Friday’s live Got to Dance final won’t be the first time the boys have taken to the world wide stage as they participated in the final of the second series of the show with the group Trinity Warriors. They also performed on Ashley Banjo’s Secret Street Crew with Trinity Warriors.
Following their performance on Friday, the public will be able to vote for their favourite act of the night which will walk away as the Got To Dance 2014 champion and £250,000 richer.
This morning the we caught up with Kelvin for an exclusive chat as he told us how he was feeling after what was a huge night for the Original Kidz.
He said: “The whole night was amazing, I’m still absolutely speechless, we weren’t that nervous during the day yesterday but when it came to going on stage it really hit us.
“We had a team talk just before going out, which helped, and then we went out and did our absolute best.
“It was absolutely crazy when we discovered we had gotten through to the Got to Dance final, we just couldn’t believe it!”
Following their semi final success last night the boys sat back and took a moment to relax and let it all sink in.
“We went and chilled out a bit and let it all sink in, but now the hard work begins all over again, we’ll be getting ready for the final today.”
