Solicitors representing former detective sergeant Trevor Gray had challenged his dismissal from the force, following a misconduct hearing held in August 2014, where he was dismissed for breaches of standards of professional behaviour with regards to honesty and integrity and discreditable conduct.

A Police Appeals Tribunal upheld the Force’s approach, but the High Court has now ruled that it was wrong to do so, on procedural grounds.

The force was refused permission to appeal against the order of the High Court at the hearing, however the current order relating to Mr Gray’s reinstatement will be stayed, pending a review of full written grounds requesting permission to appeal to the Court of Appeal.
