A lack of sunshine failed to cast a shadow on a garden party on Nottingham Road, Giltbrook, which raised a total of £531 for Age Concern Eastwood.
Mike and Carol Smith laid on the event and more than 200 people attended to enjoy 40 craft stalls, female singer Harmony Handsworth, a tombola, a white elephant stall, a lucky gift bag stall, a raffle, an incredible home-made baking stall and home-made ice-cream and a chocolateer. Carol and Mike had organised refreshments for everyone including a buffet lunch for the volunteers.
Months of hard work and planning were involved. Carol also had the ingenious idea of giving ‘goodie’ bags at the entrance that consisted of business cards and literature of local groups and businesses to help spread to the community.
Josie Marsters, a trustee at Age Concern Eastwood, was at the event and said: “The day was a great success and everyone enjoyed themselves.”
She added: “On behalf of Age Concern Eastwood I want to thank Mike and Carol.” Pictured are Mike and Carol and singer Harmony Handsworth (inset).
