Residents of Eastwood and Kimberley are being urged to recycle more through after Broxtowe Borough Council gave the go-ahead for kerbside textiles collections.
The new service will allow residents to recycle their unwanted clothing, accessories, such as belts and scarfs, paired shoes, towels, blankets, clean bedding and curtains by placing them in carrier bags and putting them out for collection.
The materials will then be collected to coincide with the four-weekly kerbside glass collections, using an existing refuse freighter which can separately collect two materials.
The scheme is expected to start in early November 2014. It is expected to help towards achieving a borough-wide annual recycling rate of 50% by 2016
