Eastwood & Brinsley Women’s Institute (WI) met for their June meeting at the Dora Phillips Hall, Eastwood.

Discussions took place on the WI Baton Relay which is to be held by W.I.s in the area this month as part of the National 100th birthday celebrations.

Members were then enthralled by the ‘Workhouse Storytellers’, a group of four National Trust Volunteers in the costumes of the late nineteenth century.

They re-enacted in story and music life of various workers and occupants of the workhouse at Southwell. Members were both entertained and moved by the tales of both life and death. Those taking part were Phil Robinson, Saeed Jones, Malcolm Seymour and Victoria Preece.

The next meeting will be held at the Dora Phillips Hall at 2pm on July 8 when the subject of the talk will be on local composer Eric Coates (Dam Busters Theme) by Peter Butler. Visitors are always welcome. For details contact the secretary on 01773 712132.
