Language college set for £2m improvements

COSTS have been finalised for £2million improvements to a college in Langley Mill.

Aldercar Community Language College will have a new sports hall and extra classroom space to help pupils with special needs.

Derbyshire County Council will fund 1,750,000 and the college will contribute 122,145 towards the cost of the work.

The sports hall will be next to the outdoor all-weather pitch and would be available for community groups to use. It will replace the college's 60-year-old gym.

Derbyshire County Council secured 7, 200,000 last year from the Department for Children, Schools and Families to spend on new classrooms and sports halls at six schools in the county.

Kirk Hallam Community Technology College in Ilkeston is also benefiting from almost 2 million of the funding for a new sports hall.

Cllr Mike Longden, county cabinet member for education, said: "We're eager to invest in a new sports hall at Aldercar College.

"Helping pupils achieve their full potential is a top priority for us and this hall will give them a chance to do just that.

"I look forward to work starting."
