On behalf of the planning committee of the 2014 Greasley Gathering I would like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to everyone who either attended the events, or provided entertainment, catering and stalls. It made the event bigger and better.

We are extremely pleased with this year’s Gathering and were delighted with the support from the community taking full advantage of the day.

That’s who it was for! People were very generous, oblivious to the weather and especially enjoying the rides on the red London bus. The new, but extremely popular, event of pirate scarecrows at Colliers Wood became a hard decision for the Mayor, Cllr. Stan Heptinstall.

The prize of £100 was eventually split and awarded to Kimberley Brownies and the 2nd Kimberley Cubs. The avenue of pirates was a sight to see! Zara Barrowcliffe won the children’s prize draw and Richard Kirk the one for adults. The children’s fancy dress prize was shared by Eve, Cassie and Isaac Bradley.

Our grateful thanks go to everyone who made the day possible – the kind donations of grants from councils, councillors and local pubs; tombola prizes from local and national businesses and individuals; the home-made cakes and especially to those who gave up their time.

We look forward to beginning our planning for an even better Greasley Gathering 2015.

Paul Tordoff

Chairman of the Greasley Gathering
