A new credit union will be officially opened in Kimberley on February 1 by the Mayor of Broxtowe.
Iris White will open the Kimberley branch of the Nottingham Credit Union at Rumbletums Cafe in Newdiagte Street, at 11am.
The information point will then be open every Tuesday morning from 10am until 12noon.
Credit unions are there to help the many people who are in financial difficulty as a result of high interest rates charged by the pay day and doorstep lenders, or people being turned away by their banks.
They offer savings accounts, current accounts, rent accounts, budget accounts and loans at very competitive interest rates, with repayment options to suit people’s budgets.
Trustee Jeff Buck said: “Rumbletums is a community hub for Kimberley and we’re keen to offer a range of services to local people. The credit union was an obvious one to look at in the current economic climate and we’ve been delighted with the enthusiasm for the idea. We already have 14 people who have offered their time to the project. Some of our local churches are also very involved”.
