Mayor’s £3k helping hand for charity

Councillor Iris White presents Helpful Bureau Manager, Margaret Bowen and Chairman, John Fox with a cheque for �3,000.

A charity which helps people remain independent in their own homes has been given a cheque for £3,000 by the Mayor.

The Helpful Bureau on Church Street in Stapleford, was presented with the cheque by Councillor Iris White, Mayor of Broxtowe as one of her two chosen charities during her civic year .

Councillor White said: “I am delighted to have raised this money, which will help ensure that the Helpful Bureau can continue to provide the many fantastic services it offers to support local people and give them a better quality of life.”

She added: “I would like to thank the community for their support with our fundraising, which will make such a difference to some of the more vulnerable members of our community.”

More than £6,000 was raised in total by the Mayor through a host of events which included a fashion show, pamper evening and charity ball.

The money raised has been split between the Helpful Bureau and Treetops Hospice.
