Enid Bailey recalls the memories of her wedding day in the book ‘A Century Remembered’ by the Eastwood History Society.

She tied the knot to Jesse Goodband in 1946 at Eastwood Church.

Enid recalls how she rushed around to get coupons to buy material for her wedding dress and how she saved her rations to get a ham to boil for the reception.

Enid said: “I was relying on my husband-to-be to bring some tinned fruit from Australia, as he was serving in the Pacific Fleet.

“The big day arrived and the weather was perfect.”

Jesse was only home for four days before returning to war.
