Eastwood MP Gloria De Piero launched a constituency-wide campaign highlighting what she dubbed the ‘broken promises’ of Nick Clegg and the Liberal Democrats since 2010.
The Labour Party declared a national day of action last weekend with similar events up and down the country.
Locally, activists set up stalls at various sites, including outside The Hollies in Eastwood and Co-op in Selston.
The campaign also claimed the Lib Dems and Conservatives were ‘two sides of the same coin’.
Gloria, the Labour MP for the Ashfield constituency which includes Eastwood, claimed: “They (the Lib Dems) are breaking promises and have not stood up to the Prime Minister. That’s why I’m telling the people of Ashfield that the Tories and the Liberal Democrats are two sides of the same coin.
“There’s a long list of broken promises.
“They promised to keep VAT low but then voted in Parliament to increase it and there was also the promise of fair taxes before going on to back a tax cut for millionaires instead, which was paid for by hard working families in Ashfield and Eastwood.”
But Liberal Democrat Parliamentary candidate Jason Zadrozny disputes the campaign and Ms De Piero’s claims.
He said: “This is just the Labour Party clutching at straws in the run-up to an election.
“I knock on doors on the campaign trail in Eastwood and know that this is not what people want from their local MP.
“I know from speaking to constituents that the tax changes we implemented have made a real difference to people’s lives in the area.”
