Nottinghamshire County Council is among the first local authorities in England to pilot reminiscence packs or ‘memory lane kits’ to support people with dementia.

The council’s library service is working with the Forget-Me-Not Dementia Support Group to pilot six kits with themes including childhood and the 1940s.

If a success, 50 of the kits will be made available in the county’s libraries to co-incide with Dementia Awareness Week in May. The memory lane kits feature scrapbooks, objects on a particular theme, DVDs and CDs, photographs and pictures.

In Nottinghamshire, there are 9,700 people with dementia, but only a third of people have a diagnosis and by 2030, an estimated 16,000 people will have dementia in the county.
