The Pye Hill and District Male Voice Choir will be in concert at Forest Town Methodist Church, 121 Clipstone Road West, on Saturday May 10 at 7.30pm to mark the church’s 109th Anniversary.
The Pye Hill & District Male Voice Choir first began life in 1903 and is two years older than the church, so there is an irony in the fact this will be their first concert at Forest Town Methodist Church ever.
The choir is one of the oldest male voice choirs in the country and has a rich history as a prize winning choir and is still going strong today with a full programme of concerts arranged for 2014, including a tour to Norfolk and already taking bookings for 2015.
The concert includes ‘Stout Hearted Men’, ‘I Believe’, ‘You Raise Me Up’, ‘Kings of Swing Medley’ (‘Begin the Beguine’, ‘Ain’t Misbehavin’,’ Moonlight Serenade’, ‘Chattanooga Choo Choo’), ‘May It Be’, ‘Jamaica Farewell’, ‘Pedro the Fisherman’, ‘The Rose’, ‘ Songs from Oliver’, ‘The Water of Tyne’, ‘My Love is Like a Red, Red Rose’, ‘Des Morgenrot’, ‘Get me to the Church on Time’, ‘May it Be’, ‘Bright Eyes’, ‘Creations Hymn’ and ‘Let there be Peace on Earth’.
A number of solos will also be performed including ‘No Other Love Have I’ – Bill Walker (Baritone), ‘The Wedding of Lilli Marlene’ – Frank Akers (Base) and ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone – Collin Dutton (Tenor) with chorus from the choir.
Entry to the concert is by ticket which are available at £5 for adults and £3 for young people to age 16 direct from the Church; Mrs. Edith Levick on 01623 643411 or Malcolm Hill on the telephone numbers below. Tickets may be reserved to be collected at the door of the church on the evening of the concert.
The choir are always pleased to welcome new members. Why not come to the concert and make yourself known or turn up at practise on Monday evening at 7.30pm at the Dale Club, Jacksdale.
