Ray Crowe promised his wife he would get a tattoo on his arm if he reached 80 years old.

The pensioner said he only ever thought he would live until 60 and he said to his wife Bren, who died seven years ago, that if he reached 80 he would get a tattoo.

“After I got to 70 I said to Bren if I reach 80 I’m going to get a tattoo. She said ‘you will never grow up’ and I don’t think she believed me! But I stuck it in my mind that I would have it done.”

The tattoo says ‘Made it our Bren’ with an ‘80’ next to it.

“I could just imagine her looking over my shoulder as I was having it done,” he said.

And Ray says if he reaches 90 he will get a tattoo on the other arm.

“I’d have it saying ‘I’ve made it again Bren!’,” he joked.

Ray’s son, John Crowe runs the tattoo studios Into Skin in both Eastwood and Kimberley and said his dad was his oldest ever customer.
