Ilkeston MP Jessica Lee was visited by new Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin in Ilkeston this week in the latest step to secure a train station for the town.
Miss Lee brough the Derbyshire Dales MP to the town to show him the site of the proposed train station after he took over his new post in a cabinet reshuffle in September.
Speaking afterwards she told the Advertiser: “I realised that taking over as Secretary of State must be a huge task so I wanted to make sure that Ilkeston Station didn’t get overlooked.
“I went over the statistics and reports with Patrick and pointed out significant factors that I feel make Ilkeston a good case for infrastructure investment.
“I thought that a site visit might help him to see how everything is there but the building; we have a Station Road without a station and a train that passes by!
“Patrick took away the reports and has assured me that the case for Ilkeston Station is still under consideration.”
