Three Duffield men have raised more than £11,000 for Cancer Research by cycling all the way to Monte Carlo.

Russell Taylor, Nigel Williams and Gerard Varin took just nine days to complete their epic 1,000-mile journey.

The intrepid trio came up with the idea for their adventure in the Pattenmakers Arms, Duffield, after they each had a relative who experienced cancer.

And with the help of their families and support driver Terry Chisman, they crossed the finish line on Thursday, July 3.

Nigel said: “After 15 months of planning we finally cycled victorious into Monte Carlo.

“Our huge appreciation goes out to our sponsors, those who have donated to Just Giving, but mainly to our families for being so understanding.”

Before setting off Nigel said he was doing for someone who has beaten cancer and another person whohad not.

The cyclists’ route took them from Duffield down to Portsmouth and then diagonally across France through Caen, Vierzon and St Etienne.

You can still donate by logging on to justgiving.com/cyclemontecarlo.
