Youth punched cop in Worksop brawl

A Worksop youth punched a police officer during a brawl in the town centre after an all-day drinking binge.

Nathan Kyle Moore, 20, of Furnival Street, Manton, admitted assault when he appeared at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

Ruth Snodin, prosecuting, said PC John Skelton was called to reports of fighting on Dock Road in the early hours of July 10.

“He saw a crowd of about 20 or 30 people,” she said. “Several males and females were pushing and shoving each other.

“He saw the defendant swing at him and punch him on the chin.

“In interview the defendant said he just saw red and punched someone.”

The court heard Moore had been out all day in Sheffield to celebrate his brother’s birthday and was very drunk.

David Verity, mitigating, said: “He consumed far more alcohol than he would normally do. He returned to Worksop at 2am.

“He met with friends in the town centre and got involved in some sort of altercation.

“He bitterly regrets this. I get the impression that this is a one-off.”

Moor was fined £200, and he was ordered to pay court costs of £85 and compensation to the officer of £50.
