A LARGE rise in the amount of rubbish recycled and converted into energy could be the long-term solution to managing the millions of tonnes of waste, says Nottinghamshire County Council.
The approach was put forward in a draft joint strategy being considered by the county council and Nottingham City Council at meetings this week.
It follows a major consultation last year on the issues and options surrounding managing Nottinghamshire’s waste over the next 20 years.
Cabinet member for environment Richard Butler said: “Doing nothing is simply not an option. Landfill sites across Nottinghamshire are rapidly running out of space.”
