A hooded man attempted to break into a house on Assarts Road in Nuthall in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The police were called by a resident at 2.10am because they could hear the letter box flapping as though someone was trying to put their hand through it.

Police later confirmed that the thief had been trying to steal some keys before attempting to get over the side gate.

The man was suspected to be drunk and was wearing a dark coloured hooded top with the hood worn up.

Matthew Walsh, 31, of Elnor Street in Langley Mill has been charged with attempted burglary and will later appear in court.
