AN EX-ROYAL marine is doing a sponsored 12 mile assault course to kick start a new charity for disabled children.

Jordan Roberts is taking on the SAS challenge to help pay for play equipment for disabled children in Brinsley.

Jane Chrich, of Hobsic Close, has just started offering respite care for disabled kids from her home, and needs money to buy swings, a sandpit and a sensory shed.

22-year-old Jordan, is heading up the first fundraiser, to help Jane, who has just launched the charity ‘Colour Their World’ to pay for the equipment.

He will be doing the Tough Mudder challenge on May 12 and has so far got £800 in sponsorship.

The fitness fanatic, who hopes to reach £1,000, will be battling electric fences and fire, wading through mud for one mile, jumping into rivers and crawling through tiny tunnels.

Jordan, of Cherry tree Close, Brinsley, said: “It will be good to put the charity on the map and get the ball rolling with it.

“I’m friends with Jane’s son Sam and when I heard what she was doing I thought it would be a great cause to raise money for.”

Jane, who started the respite care service earlier this year, said she wanted to offer disabled children the same opportunities other children had.

“If they could walk down to the park I wouldn’t be asking to raise the money,” said Jane.

“But they can’t and I think they deserve to have the same things to enjoy that the other kids get to have.”

The 51-year-old said she would be planning more fundriaisng events throughout the year, but has no definite plans yet.

“I wasn’t expecting to get started with it all quite yet, but because Jordan was doing this everything has snowballed.

“I don’t think I’ll raise a fortune overnight, but hopefully I’ll get some support for it throughout the year.”

The swing Jane wants to buy for the kids is £2,500 and the sensory shed will be around £25,000.
