New markets are being launched in Eastwood and Kimberley.

The markets, launched this week, have been organised by Broxtowe Borough Council to help rejuvenate the town centres.

The market in Eastwood, which started this week, will be held every Monday in Wellington Place, and the market in Kimberley will be held on the third Saturday of every month, starting in April.

The council decided to launch the idea after seeing the success of a market in Beeston.

Since it started last year, Mondays have gone from being one of the quietest days of the week to one of the busiest.

A spokesperson for Broxtowe Borough Council said: “Markets are a cost effective way of increasing the retail presence and diversity in the local area, whilst also helping to generate extra footfall for local businesses.”

Other markets and arts and craft fairs will continue in the towns.

A new monthly market has also been launched in Stapleford.

Among the three towns there will be 175 markets days throughout the rest of 2014.

Broxtowe Borough Council’s Town Centres Team has worked with an organisation called Stall-It to organise the markets.

All markets will operate 9am to 4pm in winter and 9am to 5pm in summer.
