Mayor presents awards for ‘outstanding’ work

PEOPLE were awarded for their ‘outsanding contribution’ to the community at this week’s annual council meeting in Eastwood.

Mayor Brian Griffin presented eight awards before handing the chains over to new mayor, Ken Woodhead.

They went to teacher Joan Burns Hopkins for her 35 years service at Brookhill Leys Primary, Marie Curie nurse Moya Chetwynd for 20 years service, Peter Cheese, the vice chairman of Eastwood Historial Society, for ‘working tirelessly’ for the group, Jim Stirland for his work in the community, Michael Panter for his voluntary work, Albert Wardle for being Grealey Church organist for 37 years, Paul Beaman for running Eastwood Fire Station for over 20 years and Nick Lamb for running the town council’s garden service for eight years.
