There are now more than 70 venues licensed to host civil weddings across Nottinghamshire to cater for the ever increasing number of people opting out of a church service.
Swancar Farm Country House Hotel in Trowell was recently the 72nd venue to be licensed and approved by Nottinghamshire County Council’s Registration service.
By April 2012, it is estimated 2,750 couples will have gone through civil marriage and partnership ceremonies in Nottinghamshire – an increase of 430 on the previous 12 months.
The increase is despite a national downturn in the number of people getting hitched.
According to figures released today by the Office of National Statistics, the number of married adults in England and Wales has fallen to less than 50 per cent for the first time and the number of people who have never married has doubled since the 1970s.
