STAFF at Ikea helped create a community garden at The Kimberley School.

The store’s environment and community team built raised beds, wildlife ponds and seating areas for pupils, including those in surrounding schools, to use as part of lessons.

The Mayor of Broxtowe Jacky Williams officially opened the garden on Monday of this week, July 18.

Katie O’Neil at Ikea said: “We got involved in this project as we recognised the existing space had great potential for education and community involvement.

“The fantastic thing is that the school has agreed the garden will be available for all the local primary schools and also Foxwood school, to use for either allotment space or pond dipping lessons.”

Ms O’Neil said Ikea wanted to start doing a project every three or four months to get them working with the community more.
