New highways initiative to save money

A NEW way of carrying out highways works will save money and provide a boost for local businesses.

Nottinghamshire County Council has decided to contract a lot of its highways work out, saving money for both the council and the public, and giving local contractors some business.

Residents will no longer have to pay the council when installing a dropped kerb outside their home, for example. Instead, they will be able to employ a contractor, via a licence system.
