RESIDENts in Eastwood have kindly donated equipment to an angling club.

Chris Merriman, Tim Burke and also Jim Stirland, who helps fundraise for the group, donated the kit to Cast.

The origins of Cast are believed to have started in the 1990s when a group of youths were told off for fishing in private waters in the Newstead Abbey Grounds.

Rather than reprimanding them, a bailif is said to have encouraged them to set up tuition classes once a week, which, in time led to Cast.

The Mayor of Eastwood, Cllr Brian Griffin, said: “Many of the young people attending have turned their lives around showing a real interest in a fascinating and rewarding sport.”

Classes run from St Mary’s Church in Eastwood every Wednesday between 6pm and 7.30pm.
