AN EASTWOOD pensioner was left battered and bruised after a man brutally attacked him while he was out walking his dog.

The yob punched and kicked the 65-year-old and set his Staffordshire Bull Terrier on the pensioner’s King Charles Spaniel, Charlie.

The assault happened in front of the attacker’s young daughter who victim Brian Beresford believes was no more than ten-years-old.

Mr Beresford revealed he was left ‘totally shocked’ following the attack but the man’s daughter started talking to her dad after the incident ‘as if it was completely normal’.

The pensioner – who said people in his street are now afraid to go out – was walking his pet dog near the cricket pitch off Greenhills Road in Eastwood when his attacker told him to put Charlie on a lead and started swearing at him.

“He told me to get my dog on a lead really nastily,” said Mr Beresford.

“I assured him he doesn’t fight but he kept on at me and then he started swearing and I could see his dog was getting nasty.

“I got my dog by the collar to walk past and his dog was growling and trying to get at mine.

“I said ‘you should have your dog on a muzzle’, and then I was met with another load of abuse.

“I walked off and next thing I knew his Staffy comes belting past me and attacked my dog. He had let it off its lead to get my dog.”

Mr Beresford said he was then attacked by the man as he scrambled to the floor to pull the dogs apart.

“I went down on my hands and knees to get his dog off mine and the next thing I know he was punching me,” recalled Mr Beresford.
