Only the beginning

Madam, As a resident of Eastwood, I wish to register my opposition to the sale of part of Coronation Park.

This is a public park and, as such, should remain a green area for the use and enjoyment of all Eastwood residents.

This week, a small piece is sold, next week a bit more, and before we know it, all the park is just a distant memory.

More importantly, I strongly object to the way this sale is being carried out.

The public notice served by Broxtowe Borough Council, which was printed in the Eastwood and Kimberley Advertiser two weeks ago, stated the land was on Plumptre Way.

To anyone glancing at the notice, it would probably mean somewhere down the road, near the island, behind some of the properties.

It was only after a little investigation that I found out the land was a piece of the park.

Why was this not stated in the Public Notice, so people knew exactly what was being sold.

The second point is that, reading between the lines in this week's edition, and also hearing various snippets of news from residents, the land has already been sold, so why bother with all the niceties?

Just go ahead and build the monstrosity that was pictured last week, and try and justify taking green park land, by telling us the building will be environmentally friendly.
