DIGNITARIES gathered at a play park to declare it officially open after a £40,000 makeover.

Greasley Parish Council invited Broxtowe Mayor Jacky Williams and teachers and pupils from the local school to open the newly refurbished Beauvale Jubilee Park.

The park at Greasley Sports Centre, which has been re-named for the Queen’s Jubilee year, has had new swings, slides, an adventure course, and special play equipment for toddlers.

Deputy headteacher at Greasley Beauvale Primary School Russell Gray said: “The children use it every day and have been really enjoying it.”

The parish council used £34,000 section 106 money to fund the makeover, and put £7,000 towards it themselves.

Section 106 money comes from housing developments in the area.

This funding came from the developers of the Persimmons site off Smithurst Road.
