Irene was presented with a cake at the plush do, and was serenaded by entertainer Richard Comfort who sang her favourite hymn, How Great Thou Art.
She said her life had been ‘enriched by a wonderful family and many good friends’ and said reaching 90 was ‘quite an achievement’.
The birthday girl, who has lived in Highfield Road for over 40 years, worked as a control officer for the National Fire Service during World War Two and then for the John Player factory.
She is an award-winning dancer and was a member of Hilltop lunch club for 27 years.
