Poppy Appeal preparations in full swing

Hot summer days seem the wrong time of the year to be planning events that will be held in November.

But the Eastwood and District Branch of the Royal British Legion is already busy planning this year’s Poppy Appeal and poppy fundraising launch.

The launch will take place on Thursday, October 24, from 6.30pm to 9pm, at Dunn Lite on Nottingham Road, Eastwood.

Refreshments will be available to purchase so come and have a cup of tea and a slice of delicious home-made cake. There will be an opportunity to buy your poppy, also poppy crosses, car badges, four styles of wristband, including two new designs available for the first time, and dated badges.

We are also hoping to have a ‘Poppy Shop’ with beautiful poppy gifts. We already have a lovely collection of hand-made jewellery and cards, but would like to have lots more items for sale, so this is your chance to help us.

Are you a craft person making cards, crochet or knitting poppy brooches, etc etc?

Could you make anything poppy related and donate it to the launch for us to sell?

This is the ideal time for you to start, those long summer evenings sitting on the patio, glass of wine in one hand and knitting needles in the other.

Or do you have any ornaments, pictures etc with poppy themes you no longer want? Perhaps you are an artist and would like to create a few paintings, or embroidery? As long as it has got a poppy on it, we would like it.

The information on where and when to hand in your creations will be in the paper later, so this is an ideal opportunity for all of you creative people out there to show off your talents and use up all those craft items stored in cupboards that you have bought and never used.

Help the Eastwood branch to have a brilliant Poppy Appeal, and show your support for all our service personnel.

M.Kirk,

Poppy Appeal organiser
